Flight based Alberta Daycare

Welcome to Happy Dreamers Daycare! We are thrilled that you are considering us as your daycare centre. Being a part of Happy Dreamers Daycare means that you are part of a family. We are the village that will help raise your child(ren). With passionate educators, and engaging activities, your child will be prepared and supported through the tough job of growing up. We will hold your kids when they cry, kiss their bumps and bruises, celebrate their achievements, and cheer them on as they learn. We will love them as our own.

What does it mean to be a Flight centre?

It means we PLAY. When we play, we GET MESSY, we LEARN, and we HAVE FUN! Play is the central focus behind everything we do. And mostly importantly, we play without a desired outcome. Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework is a leading educational approach that emphasizes holistic child development. Our activities are open ended to inspire children to follow their own interests. When we give children the freedom to explore the world around them, their imaginations take over and that's when the magic happens. We believe every child is a mighty learner & citizen- capable, strong, resourceful.

Our Philosophy

Finding happiness is something we are all striving to achieve. We all discover it in different places. Some of us work to be happy, some of us work so we can afford the things that make us happy, and some of us work so that we can afford the roof over our heads to spend time with the people who make us happy.

Discovery is an important factor of child development in our daycare, so that every child can define what "happy" is to them.

There are so many different types of dreamers and ways to experience happiness, and we wish to inspire our children to dig deep into themselves to find what brings them happiness. We believe that everyone has a dreamer inside of them, and if we are given the chance to explore and experiment what makes us and others happy, we can change the world. At Happy Dreamers Daycare, we understand that children have diverse needs and we will encourage your little dreamer to think big, and reach for the stars. We will achieve this by providing a variety of mainly play- based experiences and modelling kindness and respect.

We believe in teaching good habits and freedom through routine. Children experience anxiety when they are unsure of expectations. Our main goal  is to develop routines that ease anxiety, and develop responsibility. As children become comfortable in their routines, it allows them to develop a personality without barriers. In this crucial time of development, your children will be supported through learning social, emotional, practical, fine motor, creative, and many other skills through our programs.

What's in it for them?

Engaging Activities

We offer a diverse range of activities designed to nurture every aspect of your child's development. Our art activities encourage creativity and self-expression, allowing children to explore different mediums such as painting, drawing, and crafting. Sensory activities engage their senses through hands-on experiences with materials like sand, water, and textured objects, which help in developing fine motor skills and cognitive growth. We incorporate music and movement sessions to enhance their auditory skills and physical coordination. Storytime and literacy activities foster a love for reading and language development, while science and nature explorations spark curiosity and critical thinking. Our outdoor playtime is designed to build physical strength and coordination through activities like climbing, running, and playing games. Additionally, cooperative games and group activities teach essential social skills, such as teamwork and communication. Each activity is carefully crafted to be both fun and educational, ensuring a well-rounded early learning experience for every child.

Meaningful Community

We believe that being part of a community and making friends is essential for a child's development. Social interactions with peers help children develop critical social skills, such as sharing, empathy, and communication. By being part of a supportive and inclusive community, children learn to build trust and form meaningful relationships. These early friendships provide a sense of belonging and security, which boosts their confidence and self-esteem. Engaging in group activities and collaborative play fosters teamwork and cooperation, skills that are vital for their future academic and personal success. Additionally, the sense of community extends to families, creating a network of support where parents and children can connect, share experiences, and grow together. We strive to cultivate an environment where lifelong friendships and a strong sense of community are nurtured every day.

Brightwheel App Access

We use an app to track check ins/outs, food, diaper/potty, photos, videos, & naps to keep you informed throughout the day.

Learning Stories

We record observations of your child learning through play and provide you with an analysis of how it relates back to the Flight framework to make learning visible. Each child can expect 2 learning stories per month. One child from each classroom gets highlighted on our "Future World Changers" board at the front of the centre each week.

FAQs

Will my child come home dirty every day?

Every child has the right to get messy at our centre! We encourage fully immersive play experiences that may include dirt, water, sand, slime, paint, etc. While we do offer paint shirts, there's a good chance your child will get their clothes wet/dirty throughout the day. Please send your children in used or already stained clothes to daycare. We recommend having a daycare wardrobe with second hand clothes!

Does my child have to nap at daycare?

Nap time is essential for young children as it helps to restore their energy levels, support healthy brain development, and improve their mood and behaviour. A well-rested child is more attentive, better able to learn, and more capable of handling emotions and social interactions. During naps, their bodies undergo important processes, such as memory consolidation and physical growth. By incorporating regular nap times into our daily routine, we ensure that your child receives the rest they need to thrive both physically and mentally. Rested children are happier and more engaged, making the daycare experience more enjoyable and beneficial for everyone.

We have a 2 hour napping period during the day. Children may nap for the full 2 hours or for part of it, depending on what their body needs. Children are never forced to nap; however, as they experience high levels of stimulation at daycare, children who do not normally nap at home may choose to nap to replenish energy for the afternoon. We only have 1 non-napping room, for pre-kinder & kindergarten aged children.

Do I need to label my child's belongings?

YES. All belongings must be labelled to avoid misplacing your child's personal items at daycare. This includes backpacks, shoes, layers such as hoodies that may be removed during the day, and water bottles! Many children come to daycare with identical items, so labelling will ensure your child is bringing home only their items!

What do I need to include in my child's backpack?

Your child will need a few spare changes of season appropriate clothes (even if they're potty trained, they may get messy or wet during play and require new clothes), water bottle, 1 soother (if required), 1 comfort item for nap time (if required). Please avoid sending toys from home in their backpacks, as they may fall out and get lost or broken.

Do you offer out of school care?

We only offer daycare services for ages 12 months- 5 years old. We offer kinder care with transport to Joey Moss school, but all children graduate from our program by their first day of grade 1. If you can get a yellow bus drop off from other schools in the surrounding area, that is also accepted!

Can my child bring toys from home?

We have lots of fun toys and activities at daycare, so ask that you please keep personal toys at home or in the car, unless they're asked to be brought in for a special occasion or show and tell. We don't want anything to happen to your toys, and will not be responsible for any lost or broken toys from home.

We also want to have an environment where all children can play with all the toys, without having to worry if it belongs to someone else.

Do you offer meals?

We offer morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack. We have regular, halal, and vegetarian options. We provide copies of the menu to every family, so if your child requires any additional alternatives, you may provide them on days where our menu contains them.

Virtual Tour

Due to our long waitlist, we are currently only offering in-person tours to families who are close to securing a spot for their child. However, we want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn more about our daycare and what we offer.

We invite you to take a virtual tour of our facility. This tour will give you a comprehensive overview of our daycare, and the wonderful environment we provide for the children in our care.
